MANY ROOFS AND BUILDINGS COLLAPSED FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW. UP TO 3-4 FEET WERE MEASURED IN THE NEARBY HIGHER ELEVATIONS. TEMPERATURE ON THE 30TH 53 F. BY APRIL 3RD SNOW COMPLETLY GONE AND 65 F. UNBIELIVABLE HEAT ON THE APRIL 5TH 80 F. AND 84 F. TO 15 F.DURING THE STORM AND EVEN LOWER AFTER THE STORM. 1961 JANUARY 19-21 "BLIZZARD" A THREE DAY STORM DROPS 13.0" OF SNOW ALONG WITH 50+ MPH WIND GUSTS SEVERE BLOWING AND DRIFTING. TEMPS RANGE 25 F. TO -4 F. 1961 FEBRUARY 3-4TH "BLIZZARD" A BLIZZARD DUMPS 12.0" OF SNOW AND MAKES A TOTAL OF 21" ON THE GROUND ALONG WITH HIGH WINDS NEAR 60 MPH VERY SEVERE BLOWING, DRIFTING, 20 FOOT DRIFTS REPORTED. MUCH DAMAGE FROM WIND AND WEIGHT OF SNOW. TEMPS HOVER IN THE SINGLE DIGITS AS DRIFTING CONTINUES FOR DAYS. 1961 FEBRUARY 8-9TH ANOTHER MAJOR SNOWSTORM POUNDS THE AREA WITH 15.0" OF SNOW ON TOP OF THE DEEP SNOW ALREADY ON THE GROUND MAKING 31.0" A STATE OF EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED IN THE COUNTY. 1962 MARCH 6-7TH "BLIZZARD" SNOWFALL OF 10.5" AND VERY HIGH WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH NOT REAL COLD WITH THE STORM UPPER 20'S TO LOW 30'S. 1963 DECEMBER 23-24TH SNOWFALL OF 10.3" 1964 JANUARY 12-13TH "BLIZZARD" STORM DUMPS 15.5" OF SNOW WITH HIGH WINDS 45-50 MPH GUSTS. TEMPS DURING THE STORM 27 F. TO 12 F. AFTER THE STORM WENT AS LOW AS -10 F. DRIFTING CONTINUED. 1964 FEBRUARY 18-20TH SNOWFALL OF 11.5" 1965 JANUARY 10-11TH SNOWFALL OF 10.0" 1966 JANUARY 29-30TH "BLIZZARD" THE FAMOUS BLIZZARD OF 1966 BEGINS AT NOON AFTER A MORNING LOW OF -3 F. THE POWERFULL STORM INTENSIFIES RAPIDLY WITH BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AND WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS OF ZERO VISIBILITY AND BRUTALLY COLD TEMPERATURES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS ALONG WITH WINDS GUSTING PAST 60 MPH. THE STORM CONTINUES OVERNIGHT AND INTO THE NEXT DAY WITH NO LET UP UNTILL 10AM. 15.0" FELL ON TOP OF 12.0" MAKING 27.0" THE VERY COLD TEMPERATURES, HIGH WINDS AND SEVERE DRIFTING CONTINUED INTO THE 31ST. 20 FOOT DRIFTS. THIS WAS A TRUE BLIZZARD! 1967 FEBRUARY 7TH SNOWFALL OF 10.0" 1967 DEC. 31ST -JAN.1ST 1968 10.5" SNOWFALL. 1969 DECEMBER 25-26TH SNOWFALL OF 10.0" 1971 JANUARY 1ST A SNOWSTORM OF 14.0" 1971 NOVEMBER 25TH THANKGIVING SNOWSTORM!! THANGIVING DAY, AREA WAKES UP TO 1 FOOT OF SNOW FOR BIGGEST & EARLIEST SNOWFALL EVER. A HEAVY WET SNOW WITH 11.5" IN TOWN AND MUCH HIGHER AMOUNTS OUTSIDE OF TOWN. 1972 FEBRUARY 19-20TH A 13.0" SNOWSTORM FOLLOWED BY SEVERE DRIFTING AND COLD. 1979 FEBRUARY 18-19TH 11.0" SNOWFALL 1983 FEBRUARY 11TH RECORD BREAKING SNOWSTORM DROPS 25.0" OF SNOW WITH BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES WIND GUSTS TO 37 MPH WITH SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW CAME DOWN AT AN AMAZING RATE OF 3.5" INCHES PER HOUR 2-4 PM. TEMPERATURE RANGED FROM 28F. TO 15F. DURING THE STORM. 1987 JANUARY 22ND SNOWSTORM 10.5" FELL FOLLOWED BY VERY COLD STRONG WINDS BLOWING AND DRIFTING. 1987 FEBRUARY 22-23 HEAVY WET SNOWSTORM WITH 13.0" OF SNOW THUNDER AND LIGHTNING WITH THE STORM. ALOT OF POWER LINE AND TREE DAMAGE FROM THE WEIGHT. 1990 DECEMBER 28TH SNOWFALL OF 11.0" 1993 MARCH 13TH "BLIZZARD" A VERY RARE LATE SEASON BLIZZARD DROPS 20.0" OF SNOW WITH SEVERE BLOWING AND DRIFTING DURING THE STORM WINDS CLOCKED UP TO 55 MPH WITH ZERO VISIBILITY AND WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS. THE TEMPERATURE RANGED BETWEEN 19F. AND 14F. THIS WAS THE WORST STORM EVER TO AFFECT SO MANY STATES WITH BLIZZARD CONDITIONS FROM ALABAMA TO MAINE ESPECIALLY SO SO LATE IN THE SEASON. ANOTHER TRUE BLIZZARD! 1994 JANUARY 17TH SNOWFALL OF 13.0" FELL HERE IN TOWN NEARBY HIGHER ELEVATIONS GOT UP TO 2 FEET. 34.9" 1996 JANUARY 7-8TH EXTREME RECORD SETTING SNOWSTORM BRINGS AREA TO HALT AND SMOTHERS US WITH 3 FEET OF SNOW (34.9") OFFICALLY HERE IN TOWN IT'S THE MOST SNOW EVER TO FALL FROM A STORM, OR IN A MONTH, AND IT'S ALSO THE MOST EVER ON THE GROUND. WOW! WINDS IN THE STORM OF 37 MPH CAUSED SOME MODERATE TO HEAVY BLOWING AND DRIFTING AND WHITE-OUTS AT TIMES. TEMP RANGED 19F.TO 12F. JANUARY 12TH MORE SNOW FALLS ONLY 4 DAYS LATER FROM THE BIG ONE. 8.0" FELL BRINGING THE TOTAL ON THE GROUND TO 34.0" AGAIN. 12.4" 1999 March 14th 12.4" of heavy wet snow. Snow flurries began 7:30am then at 9:45am snow rapidly became heavy and accumulating. Temperature was up to 35F this morning but began falling as the snow continued. Temperature stayed right at 32F all day and evening. Moderate to heavy wet snow fell all day. Trees and wires hanging very heavy and low with some damage. By 9pm snow began to taper off and became light and intermittent. A snowfall total of 12.4" was measured before snow began to settle and melt. This was the 6th largest snowfall for the month of March. 13.5" 2000 January 25th A powerful snowstorm surprises area with over a foot of snow today. Snow began this morning at 6am like someone flipped a switch with heavy snow and near whiteout conditions as winds gusted to 25 mph. Snow moderate to heavy all day with snow coming down at a rate up to 2 inches per hour. By noon 7.8" of new snow was on the ground. Snow began to tapper off after 5pm but 13.5" had fallen by then. Some light snow and flurries throughout the evening with no additional accumulation. Rather windy with some blowing and drifting as winds gust to 25 mph. SNOWFALL 24.6" 2003 February 15th Snow overnight 1:30am - 7am with 2.1" A few periods of light snow and flurries throughout the morning but no additional accumulation. Cloudy the rest of day. February 16th Snow began again overnight around 2am with 4 new inches by 8am. Snow all day with very cold temperatures in the mid teens. Snow was steady and moderate all day heavy at times by midnight 16.0" new inches had fallen. 18.1" since yesterday. February 17th Snow overnight with sleet mixed in. Sleet was heavy at times and compacted the snow amounts. 5.2" of new snow and sleet fell since midnight and by 9am bringing the storm total to 23.3" inches. If the sleet would have not fallen the amount would be closer to 30" Water content from storm 2.70". Some very light snow and flurries today. Some freezing drizzle this evening and more light snow late this evening with another 0.3". February 18th More periods of light snow overnight with another 1.0" since midnight. Some flurries throughout the morning. The Grand total from the 4 day event was 24.6". SNOWSTORM 16.2" 2009 December 18th Mostly cloudy high 34 F. Snow began around 10:15pm this evening 0.5" by midnight. 19th: Snow fell all night moderate to heavy at times 7.5" on ground 8am. Snow continues all morning heavy at times 11.3" by noon. Snow continues during afternoon and evening. 1pm 12.3". 4pm 14.0" 7pm 16.0" Storm ended by 9 pm 16.2" Total. NEW DECEMBER SNOWFALL RECORD FOR MOST SNOW FROM A STORM OR EVENT - The the old record of 12.5" set in 1960 on Dec 11-12 was surpassed. This is also a December record for the most snow in a 24 hour period. This is also a December record for the most snow on the ground at one time from one or several snows. This is the 7th largest snowfall for any month. The all time record was 34.9" set January 8th 1996. 2010 February 5th - 6th SNOWSTORM 21.0" 5th: Light wet snow began around 11am. Snow gradually became steadier and heavier during the afternoon as temperatues dropped. 4.0" on the ground by 6pm. Snow during the evening moderate to heavy at times with increasing ENE winds gusting to 25 mph. 9.0" inches by midnight. Good bit of Blowing and drifting snow late this evening. 6th: Snow of varying intensity overnight with gusty NNE winds. 16" inches on the ground at 7am. Snow continued to fall throughout the morning. Snow ended around 2pm. Final snowfall total was 21.0" Water comtent total was 1.45" February 9-10th SNOWSTORM 17.4" ** NEW RECORDS SET ** 9th: Another very cold morning low of 7 F. Some light snow began by 11am. Snow fell throughout the afternoon and evening moderate at times. New snow at 6pm 4.0" 8pm 6.3" By midnight 9.0" 10th: Periods of light snow fell overnight only 1.5" fell between midnight - 6:30am. Snow became heavy after 7am and winds rapidly increased with gusts to 30 mph. 8am 13.2" of new snow. Blowing and drifting of snow. Snow fell all day moderate to heavy at times with some occasional gusty NW winds to 33mph. Snow ended by 8pm. 8.4" fell since midnight. Total from storm was 17.4" inches. There is about 29 inches on ground total from other storms. **This storm brings the monthly total to 43" which is a new record for February and for any winter month. The old February record was 34.8" in 2003. The old all time monthly snowfall record was 42.9" set in January 1996. 2016 January 22nd-23rd SNOWSTORM 24.4" 5th Largest Storm Ever 22nd: Cloudy cold high 25 F. Light snow began just after 2pm. Snow mainly light continued the rest of afternoon and through the evening with 3.0" by midnight. Winds increased this evening gusting to 29 mph with blowing snow. 23rd: Snow overnight and windy. Snow became heavy by morning with 11.5" at 7am with blowing and drifting snow. Snow and wind all day snow was moderate to heavy at times with blowing and drifting. North winds gusting up to 36 mph. Most snow ended by 8pm with a final total of 24.4". Temperature in 20's all day. 3 and 4 foot drifts in neighborhood. Updated Jan 2016
